Hi everyone!
I want to share my Halloween costume for this year with you, but I will not have you guess. I was Dr. John Hammond, the fictional creator of Jurassic Park, first “seen” in the novel by Michael Crichton, which is waaaaaaay better than the movie, and the movie (s) were not bad at all! The late Richard Samuel Attenborough masterfully played Dr. Hammond, and I hope I honored him and his craft.
It’s time for a confession.
This costume was not my idea. My dear friend, SciComm colleague, former MS student, and now biology faculty colleague, Prof. Sofía Martinez-Villalpando, told me that she saw me walking around campus with my hat and that I should be Dr. Hammond this Halloween. The “cosplay” worked beautifully, if I say so myself.
Here are some pictures for your enjoyment.
Thanks, Sofía!
About my dinosaur: This is one of my boy’s toys, and it has been with us for at least 20 years (my youngest is 23). The dinosaur makes a really silly sound, and yesterday I walked around my building saying, “Welcome to Jurassic Park,” and making the dino make its sound (link to the sound just below the pics; couldn’t help laughing).
And yes, I taught like this, kind of in character. It was fun.
Take care,
Oné
