It is no secret that I love science fiction. I have said so many times here and elsewhere. If you want to know some of my reasons, you can read the first couple of paragraphs of this post. I do not read as much SF as I used to, but I am trying to correct that situation.
Over the years I have read quite a bit of SF; there’s the really good, the really bad and everything between the two. Here’s my favorite six novels, in no particular order. I believe that you will like them. Why six? I feel like it… (:-)…
***The Foundation Series (TFS) – Isaac Asimov
Asimov is my favorite author, period. Through him I was exposed to popular science and more importantly, science fiction. I am taking the liberty of counting TFS as a single book. It has a special place in my heart. It is one of the two books that I have read more than once. The way societies are modeled using the (still fictional) science of psychohistory is truly epic. It reads like a great movie (does this makes sense?) and gives you a perspective of something bigger than yourself.

***A case of conscience – James Blish
This is a really thought-provoking novel that explores religion. It tells the story of a Jesuit priest that is part of an expedition to a planet that is the home of a sentient, advanced race that has built a perfectly moral society … In the absence of any religious beliefs.
***Federation – Garfield and Judith Reeves-Stevens
Star Trek is a big part of my life. Besides being (mostly) good science fiction, it is much more than that. It explores the inner universe as much as it explores the outer universe. In “Federation” I saw a glimpse of how this Trek universe that I love came to be. If only our society and even humanity at large would be able to reach these ideals! This is the other book that I have read more than once. Here’s a review of it.

I like the Jurassic Park novels, although my favourite Crichton book is Airframe, for no discernible reason.
